Hamel Residence
The priority was to create a gracious retirement home near Andrews University for the retired chair of the Music Department.
The design goals focused on making a noble, personal, intimate, home accommodate the frequent gathering of children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.
Circular drive, vertical piers to lift up the eye, a permanent limestone address marker, turn the garage, frame the front door and shelter the friend knocking on the door, raise up a second floor for grandchildren giggles and wrap a noble staircase with glass railing and a balcony with a view. The master bedroom on the private side with kitchen and family room make for cozy living and a place to be remember.
The Hamel’s are now celebrating more than 23 years of gracious living in their retirement home. Construction was completed in 1979.
